my thoughts on 2009…

New Year 2009

Realised I haven’t made any news posts for this year other than my Rapidshare posts. So this is it.
I am turning 30 this year. Looking back on my 20s, it has been mainly an irresponsible joyride for me, here’s a brief time line:

  • 20-21: ORD, enter NUS, broke up with first GF
  • 21-23: Neglected studies, indulged in ECAs, met 2nd GF
  • 24-26: Quit NUS, went over to Canberra. Thoroughly enjoyed my student life abroad. Broke up with 2nd GF
  • 27-29: Started teaching in RP. Bought a flat, bought a car. Struggling with bills and loans (especially after maxing out several credit cards)

As can be seen, I spent my 20s being afraid of long-term commitment. It was also a rebellious stage in my life. Having always been a good student, I self-sabotaged myself to fail modules etc. Thank god it did not affect my chances at finding a decent job in the end!

Physically, my 20s was also a terrible time. My weight went from underweight when I was 20 to overweight was I was 22! I basically spent one year of my life being of normal weight.

So what’s in store for the next decade in my life? Here’s my todo list:

  • Become debt-free
  • Get into shape
  • Further my studies
  • Find a sustainable alternative source of income
  • Migrate to another country
  • Get a partner, get a kid

Yes, I realised my thinking has had a paradigm shift. I shifted from the Singapore Plan in my teens to the Singapore Dream in my 20s. Like any Goldilocks worth her salt, I have decided to realign my plans and goals to tread the line between the two.

On a side note, my good friend Yuanxiu has become a Dad on Feb 19; he now shares a baby boy with his wife and my other friend, Jenny :) That’s the 2nd set of friends-turned-parents I personally know, after Peishan. There should be many more to come in the following years. Soon after all the weddings which I predict will be taking place these couple of years…
